Laneige BB Cushion-Can’t a Brown Girl Just Get a BB Product in Her Color?!

IMG_6498 IMG_6499

I received the Laneige BB Cushion sample in my previous Target Beauty box a while back, and have been meaning to try it.

Laneige is somewhat of an expensive beauty brand for Target.  The BB Cushion runs for $34.00 which is a bit more than I would normally spend on a single cosmetic item at Target.

There are only three shades available (Light, Medium, Tan) which is really unfortunate for those who have an in-between skin shade.  (AKA Almost everyone.)  The information card of my sample says that Flawless Skin is just 1 step away with 5-in-1 Cushion Technology.

1) Brightens: Instantly creates the appearance of luminous skin by visibly reducing dark spots and unevennes.

2) Protects: Broad spectrum SPF 50+ blocks harmful UV rays.

3) Cools and Hydrates: Optimal mineral water moisturizes, calms, and cools upon application.

4) Prevents Shine: Regulates and prevents sebum buildup.

5) Perfects Long Lasting Coverage: Delivers ultra-smooth coverage for an all day radiant finish.

I really like the concept of this BB Cushion.  The liquid suspended in the sponge is a perfect no-mess way to apply foundation.  My skin looks really terrible right now, and when I applied it, it actually did a fine job of covering up my bleimshes without being a thick layer of makeup on my face.  The only problem was that it just was not the right color for my face.  In the picture it looks like it matches, but to the naked eye, the shade was slightly ashy.  Since the color was not right, I did not wear it out all day, so I do not know the staying power of this BB Cushion, or if the formula would work nicely with my oily skin.

Pictured below is the state of my skin right now.  Left is before patting on Laneige BB Cushion, and Right is after.

It covered my blemishes nicely, without hiding my actual skin which was nice.  If Laneige put out more shades, I would definitely try this product again, and purchase the full size.

Have you tried Laneige? Did it match your skintone?  Do you like the liquid suspended in the sponge?

Target Beauty Box December 2014-Naturals & Men’s

I get overly excited when I can get my hands on a new and inexpensive beauty box.  As soon as I found out that Target was releasing a new wave of boxes, I had to check them out.  There were 3 new choices available, and they were the Natural’s Box ($5), the Men’s Box ($5), and the Women’s Box ($10.)  I decided to pick up the Men’s Box as a stocking stuffer for my husband, and the Natural’s Box for myself. I chose the Natural’s Box because I hadn’t tried any of the samples offered, and it seemed like a fantastic value.  The unfortunate thing is that I didn’t get the Skinfix Hand Repair Cream, and I ended up getting THREE facial scrubs in this box which kind of blows.

The Following are all of the Items I Received in the Natural’s Box

SoapBox Argan Shampoo

I love almost anything with Moroccan Argan oil in it.  Moroccan oil products usually smell great, and tame my unruly hair.  (I am naturally curly, but I wear it straight on a regular basis.)   I haven’t tried this shampoo yet, but it has a great unisex scent.  The other great thing about the SoapBox brand is that for every purchase, they donate a bar of soap, vitamins supplements, or fresh water to a child in need, and that is awesome!

Burt’s Bees Facial Wipes

IMG_6366 I am excited for these Burt’s Bees Facial Cleansing Towelettes.  Burt’s Bees is a high quality brand, and I love using face wipes to help me take all of my makeup.  I am big on smells, and these wipes smells nice, clean and natural.  I can’t wait to use these.

Shea Moisture Coconut & Hibiscus Curl Enhancing Smoothie

Styling balms are my jam, and I have a drawer full of them.  I am very curious about Shea Moisture, as I have heard it is a great brand for my curly headed gals.  The smell is okay if you like coconut scents which I don’t, but I will try this hair smoothie, because it might just be the product that works for me, and I could start wearing my hair curly.

Borghese Age Defying Facial Scrub

Borghese is a Target Exclusive brand.  This scrub smells great, and when I squeezed it on top of my hand, it seems that there is a big of glitter or shimmer in it?  I’m intrigued.

Acure Brightening Facial Scrub

Another facial scrub…  And it just so happens I got two of the same!  Sigh.  This scrub is vegan, sulfate free, cruelty free, paraben free, peg free, petroleum free, phthalate free, silicone free, and gluten free.  I may keep one to try, and gift the other out.  Acure Brightening Scrub has french green clay (which is awesome) and natural exfoliators.  This may actually end up being a great scrub.

Men’s Box

I’m not going to do a full post about the men’s box, because honestly men’s products don’t interest me so much, but this box was also a crazy value, and I know my husband will love everything in this box, and repurchase most of the items after he tries them.

Overall I am pleased with both of these boxes.  I can’t wait to use all of the items, and discover some new products I’ve never tried before.

Target Beauty Box-October 2014

photo 1 photo 2

I am pretty sure I have a beauty box subcription addiction.  Every time I hear about a different beauty box, my ears perk up, and my wallet opens itself.  I just can’t help it!  I love getting stuff in the mail!

Target offers a beauty box every season, and I knew I had to order it after getting the Walmart Beauty Box.

This is what I got:

Elnett Extra Strong Hold Hairspray

photo 3

Lorel Elnett Hairspray seems to hold like any other aersol spray, and it has a baby powder scent.  It’s a nice addition to my hair care products.

Fekkai Professional Blowout Hair Refresher Dry Shampoo

photo 4

I love Fekkai products, but I just can’t get myself to love dry shampoo.  Why are all of the beauty boxes including dry shampoo every month?  If my hair gets oily, I just wash it.  Dry shampoo hasn’t done anything for me in terms of keeping my style lasting longer.  Over it.

Laneige BB Cushion Sample

I have not tried this BB Cusion yet, but I am excited to try it.  It is usually so hard to find a good BB cream for tan skin, and this sample came in three colors, so I am hoping the medium shade matches me.

NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil

photo 3 photo-5

NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil glides on super smooth is and highly pigmented.  I am curious to see what other shades are available, because this feels like it would feel so nice to line my waterline.

L’Oreal Colour Riche Extraordinaire Lipstick

photo 5 photo 1 photo 2

Okay, so this name of this lipstick is just way too long for what it is.  I would consider this lipstick more of a lipgloss.  The applicator looks kind of weird when you take it out of the tube, but it feels kind of nice on the lips.  It’s almost like a flexible rubber or plastic and it distributes a lot of color compared to a regular doefoot applicator.  The color of this lipstick is nice, and it left my lips feeling moisturized.  I would purchase this L’Oreal Colour Riche Extraordinaire Lipstick without a doubt.  The packaging of this gloss is VERY reminiscent of the packaging of YSL Glossy Stain.

I also received a coupon for Target for $3 off of a beauty purchase of $15 or more, and a coupon for 20% off and free shipping on

Overall this was a decent beauty box subscription.  The best thing was that I have never tried any of these products before and I was able to find a couple that I like and that I will purchase in the future.

Did you get a Target Beauty Box?  Are there any box subscriptions out there that you recommend for me?

Gold’n Purple, Gold’n Purple, Gold’n Purple! Sonia Kashuk 15th Anniversary Brush Set

photo 5

I purchased this brush set a few weeks ago after FINALLY seeing it in my local Target store.  I had never used Sonia Kashuk brushes before, so I had zero expections of this set, I truly only wanted the set because it is gorgeous!

The collection features a powder brush, blusher brush, duo fiber buffing brush, synthetic angled multipurpose brush, contour brush, foundation brush, concealer brush, blending brush, crease brush, small eye shadow brush, fluffy eye shadow brush, precision pencil brush, synthetic angled liner brush, smudge brush and spoolie brush.  It is a set that has almost everything you need to complete a full face application.

Today was my first chance to try out this Sonia Kashuk brush collection, and I was not disappointed.

I ran my fingers through each brush, and they are super dense and the brush hairs are not too soft, not to hard, which is great for me because I tend to like stiffer brushes.  The only brush I didn’t care for very much was the foundation brush, but I don’t use those kinds of brushes to apply my foundation anyway, so this is the only brush of the set that will go unused.

This powder brush is awesome!  It grabs lots of product, and helped with an even application of loose powder on my face.

photo 3

I also really like the contour brush.  It has short dense hairs that are perfect for a precise contour.

The photo below is a full face applied with the Sonia Kashuk brushes, in naural light, no filter.  The brushes did a great job.  I would purchase Sonia Kashuk brushes again.

Sonia Kashuk Brush and Sponge Cleanser-Not Clean Enough For Me

How often do you clean your makeup brushes and sponges?  What do you clean them with?  I have tried a couple of different methods of brush cleaning that have been quite effective but I’m always up to trying new things.

I was at Target yesterday afternoon, and spotted the Sonia Kashuk brush and sponge cleanser.  Since I didn’t have any real brush cleaner at my house I decided to pick it up.  My brushes were in need of a good scrubbing, so I used the Sonia Kashuk cleanser as soon as I got home.

All of my disgusting dirty brushes were all the same color. Yikes!

All of my disgusting dirty brushes were the same color. Yikes!  Also, don’t judge me.

The directions for this brush and spones are as follows:

1.  Wet brush hair or sponge then liberally spray on brush and sponge cleanser.

2.  Work in cleanser by massaging with your fingers to form a good lather.

3.  Fully rinse until water runs clear.  You may need to repeat step 2 for sponges.

4.  For brushes: Using your thumb and index finger, squeeze all water out of the hair, starting at the ferrule and pulling through until you pass the tips of the hair.

5.  Lay flat to dry.

I followed all of these step, which were the steps I always use to clean my brushes.  I just really didn’t like this cleanser.  There was really no “lather” as explained in step 2.  After spraying my brushes, working through, and rinsing with water a few times, there was still foundation residue on some of my brushes, and I was really dissatisfied.  I have had more success cleaning my brushes with dawn soap, or baby shampoo.

Drying out after cleaning. I didn't get a picture of them dry, because I had to use them early this morning to get ready for work.

This brush cleansing spray just seemed like heavily diluted soap, and I could have made it myself.  I was very disappointed in this product.

Sonia Kashuk brushes are absolutely beautiful so I wouldn’t mind picking up a few of her sets, I just wouldn’t clean them with this cleansing product.

In case you are interested in trying this product yourself, you can get it here:  Sonia Kashuk Brush and Sponge Cleanser

What do you use to clean and soften your brushes?  A lot of ladies have been using a cleanser called Zote Soap.  Have you used it?
