Target Beauty Box December 2014-Naturals & Men’s

IMG_6364

I get overly excited when I can get my hands on a new and inexpensive beauty box.  As soon as I found out that Target was releasing a new wave of boxes, I had to check them out.  There were 3 new choices available, and they were the Natural’s Box ($5), the Men’s Box ($5), and the Women’s Box ($10.)  I decided to pick up the Men’s Box as a stocking stuffer for my husband, and the Natural’s Box for myself. I chose the Natural’s Box because I hadn’t tried any of the samples offered, and it seemed like a fantastic value.  The unfortunate thing is that I didn’t get the Skinfix Hand Repair Cream, and I ended up getting THREE facial scrubs in this box which kind of blows.

The Following are all of the Items I Received in the Natural’s Box

SoapBox Argan Shampoo

I love almost anything with Moroccan Argan oil in it.  Moroccan oil products usually smell great, and tame my unruly hair.  (I am naturally curly, but I wear it straight on a regular basis.)   I haven’t tried this shampoo yet, but it has a great unisex scent.  The other great thing about the SoapBox brand is that for every purchase, they donate a bar of soap, vitamins supplements, or fresh water to a child in need, and that is awesome!

Burt’s Bees Facial Wipes

IMG_6366 I am excited for these Burt’s Bees Facial Cleansing Towelettes.  Burt’s Bees is a high quality brand, and I love using face wipes to help me take all of my makeup.  I am big on smells, and these wipes smells nice, clean and natural.  I can’t wait to use these.

Shea Moisture Coconut & Hibiscus Curl Enhancing Smoothie

IMG_6365

Styling balms are my jam, and I have a drawer full of them.  I am very curious about Shea Moisture, as I have heard it is a great brand for my curly headed gals.  The smell is okay if you like coconut scents which I don’t, but I will try this hair smoothie, because it might just be the product that works for me, and I could start wearing my hair curly.

Borghese Age Defying Facial Scrub

IMG_6368

Borghese is a Target Exclusive brand.  This scrub smells great, and when I squeezed it on top of my hand, it seems that there is a big of glitter or shimmer in it?  I’m intrigued.

Acure Brightening Facial Scrub

IMG_6367

Another facial scrub…  And it just so happens I got two of the same!  Sigh.  This scrub is vegan, sulfate free, cruelty free, paraben free, peg free, petroleum free, phthalate free, silicone free, and gluten free.  I may keep one to try, and gift the other out.  Acure Brightening Scrub has french green clay (which is awesome) and natural exfoliators.  This may actually end up being a great scrub.

Men’s Box

IMG_6370

I’m not going to do a full post about the men’s box, because honestly men’s products don’t interest me so much, but this box was also a crazy value, and I know my husband will love everything in this box, and repurchase most of the items after he tries them.

Overall I am pleased with both of these boxes.  I can’t wait to use all of the items, and discover some new products I’ve never tried before.

Ipsy November 2014-My Best Glam Bag Yet

IMG_5905

Just when I think of giving up on Ipsy, the Beauty Gods bestow upon me the best Glam Bag I’ve ever received.

November’s Ipsy them was Girl Meets Glitter.  The bag itself leaves much to be desired, but the contents more than make up for it.

Marc Anthony Oil of Morocco Argan Oil Hairspray

IMG_5909

This hairspray smells great, and does not make your hair sticky to the touch.  I’m not sure how well it will hold a curl, but it seems to be okay if you need to slick down your ponytail, or flyaways.  I don’t purchase hairspray very often, but I would definitely buy this one.

SeaRX Micro-Dermabrasion Face & Body Scrub

IMG_5917

Most times, I feel like if I’ve tried one micro-dermabrasion scrub, I’ve tried them all.  The only variation I ever notice is scent.  This scrub is finely grained with a light citrus scent.  I did not notice much that was special about this scrub, so I could take it or leave it.

Wet n Wild Megaslicks Balm Stain

IMG_5915

Although Wet n Wild is a cheap drugstore brand, they do have a select few products that are awesome, and their Balm Stain is one of those products.  I have a couple of these stains in my collection, and they are pigmented and long lasting.  If you like lip color, but don’t like leaving lipstick rings on your cup, this stain is for you.

Elizabeth Mott You’re So Fine Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner

IMG_5910 IMG_5912

I have a sampled a few Elizabeth Mott products in my last year of subbing, and they have all been GREAT!  This liquid liner has a great brush, however the color is not for me.  The shade is black with silver glitter which is great for this month’s Glam Bag theme, but not so great for me to wear out and about on a daily basis.  I will however purchase this liner in plain black.  It seems to dry matte, doesn’t budge, and the brush give you enough control to do the perfect cat eye.

Edit: After writing up this post, but before publishing, when I washed my hand, the liner seemed to peel off of my hand, but didn’t run.  So it is waterproof, as long as you don’t rub your eye while in water.

Tarte Maracuja Oil

IMG_5914

THIS OIL IS EVERYTHING!  When they say add oil to oily skin to control oil, this is the oil to use.  I swear by this stuff.  I have been using Tarte Maracuja Oil on and off since this time last year, and this oil is like a miracle.  It makes my skin more supple, tones down my blemishes, gives me a healthy glow, and gives me oil control.  Everytime I stop using this oil, my skin gets out of whack, as soon as I use it again, I notice that it heals my skin beautifully.  The sample size is packaged beautifully, and it is the same deluxe size sample that Tarte packages in their holiday sets.  I promise if you try this oil, you will see a significant change overnight.

Can you see why this is the BEST Glam Bag I’ve ever received?  Did you get a good Ipsy sub this month?

Allure Sample Society November 2014

IMG_5659 IMG_5660

I have been telling all of my friends and family that are looking for a subscription beauty box to go with the Allue Sample Society Sub, and this month I am almost sorry that I’ve been speaking so highly of it. I get it.  I know that we never truly know what we are going to get in these monthly subscription boxes, but I am still spending my money for samples, so I expect great sub boxes.  Oh well, maybe all of my December subs will be spectacular.

November’s Sample Society box is all about winter survival.  The products this month are geared toward skin and hair protection in the winter elements.

Malin + Goetz Bergamot Body Wash

IMG_5666

The packaging of Malin + Goetz Bergamot Body Wash is very simple and almost medicinal looking.  It is a gentle cleanser with a light citrusy scent.  It is also safe for sensitive skin.

Calvin Klein Reveal

IMG_5663

The Calvin Klein Reveal Perfume sample was the first thing I reached for to try from my box.  It has a nice warm amber-ish kind of scent.  However, there is a weird chemical-y after note, but still not unpleasant.  I would wear this scent again if someone gifted it to me.

Alterna Caviar Anti-Aging Omega + Nourishing Oil

IMG_5661

I don’t usually like adding extra oil to my hair, but in the winter time, I make an exception.  Alterna Caviar line has been around for a while, and I’ve come across quite a few samples and I have to say the line is really nice.  The scent is really pretty-if a smell can be pretty, and something you wouldn’t mind having to smell in your hair all day.  I have not tried this sample on my hair yet, but the formula is thick, so it should help with the static that cold winter weather brings with it.

Lorac Cobra Mascara

IMG_5662

I love mascara samples!  I am never upset when I get mascara.  Lorac is a great brand that has really had a ton of popularity this year.  I have the Lorac SummerGlo palette, so this mascara will be a great addition to my collection.  It is called cobra because the head of the wand is shaped to mimic a cobra.  It is supposed to be a really wet formula, so I am not 100% sure I will like it.

MD Solar Sciences MD Creme Mineral Beauty Balm

IMG_5665

At first, I thought this beauty balm was a primer for makeup, but it is a BB cream to wear alone.  It has dimethicone as one of the ingredients, which might actually make it a decent primer if I tried to put under my foundation.

Are you a Sample Society subscriber?  Were you happy with this month’s box?

Thankful for Birchbox November 2014

photo 5

Something I didn’t cut for budget purposes are my beauty subscriptions.  It’s just such a treat to receive these inexpensive “presents” every month in my mailbox.

November’s Birchbox is all about giving.  They are committed to giving a $15,000 donation, as well as an addition $1 per share of hashtag #shaRED along with a photo of the facts on your outer box.

photo 4

Now to the contents of my box,

Amika Nourishing Mask

photo 3

I am really excited to try this Amika Nourishing Mask.  This is a once-a-week treatment that conditions and repairs hair.  This sample smells divine, but I am a sucker for smells.  I really enjoyed last month’s sample of Amika Dry Shampoo, and I have no doubt I will love this Nourishing Mask.

Gilchrist & Soames Spa Therary Body Wash

photo 4

I love liquid body wash, so this Gilchrist & Soames Spa Therapy Body Wash will absolutely get used.  This body wash leaves a nice fresh scent, but the packaging leaves a little to be desired.  I would not be surprised if this is a hotel brand, because this looks exactly like the hotel toiletry samples.  I’m not sure if I will be purchasing a full size of this product.

Perlier Absolute Comfort Body Butter

photo 5

I actually like this body butter.  The consistency is nice for use as a hand cream because it is just moisturizing enough, and not too greasy.  The scent is light and would be just the right amount if you don’t want to wear anything too perfume-y.  The full size is a bit pricey at $34.46, but well worth it if you are an avid lotioner like myself.

Red Flower Illuminating Rose Collagen Renewal Face Serum

photo 1

I received two 3 ml samples of this facial serum.  It is supposed to boost elasticity and helps with the prevention of wrinkles.  I have not tried it yet, but might do a seperate review if I feel it is any good.

theBalm Cosmetics Cindy-Lou Manizer

photo 2

photo 2

I am so happy happy happy that I received Cindy-Lou Manizer!  I have been eyeing this highlighter for the last month or so, and I can’t wait to try it.  Highlighters have been my obsession lately, so I can’t wait to test it out.  I have family pictures this weekend, so I think I will be using Cindy-Lou Manizer to make my makeup application extra special.  I am beyond happy to try this product!

Bonus Sample: Justin’s Chocolate Almond Butter

I love peanut butter, and almond butter is equally as delicious.  I can’t wait to try this Chocolate Almond Butter on a slice of toast, and a few slices of apple!

I am SUPER happy with November’s Birchbox!  Just when I get bored with my Birchbox, they come out with a box like this, and they gain my attention again!  I can’t wait to use all of this month’s samples.

Target Beauty Box-October 2014

photo 1 photo 2

I am pretty sure I have a beauty box subcription addiction.  Every time I hear about a different beauty box, my ears perk up, and my wallet opens itself.  I just can’t help it!  I love getting stuff in the mail!

Target offers a beauty box every season, and I knew I had to order it after getting the Walmart Beauty Box.

This is what I got:

Elnett Extra Strong Hold Hairspray

photo 3

Lorel Elnett Hairspray seems to hold like any other aersol spray, and it has a baby powder scent.  It’s a nice addition to my hair care products.

Fekkai Professional Blowout Hair Refresher Dry Shampoo

photo 4

I love Fekkai products, but I just can’t get myself to love dry shampoo.  Why are all of the beauty boxes including dry shampoo every month?  If my hair gets oily, I just wash it.  Dry shampoo hasn’t done anything for me in terms of keeping my style lasting longer.  Over it.

Laneige BB Cushion Sample

photo 4

I have not tried this BB Cusion yet, but I am excited to try it.  It is usually so hard to find a good BB cream for tan skin, and this sample came in three colors, so I am hoping the medium shade matches me.

NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil

photo 3 photo-5

NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil glides on super smooth is and highly pigmented.  I am curious to see what other shades are available, because this feels like it would feel so nice to line my waterline.

L’Oreal Colour Riche Extraordinaire Lipstick

photo 5 photo 1 photo 2

Okay, so this name of this lipstick is just way too long for what it is.  I would consider this lipstick more of a lipgloss.  The applicator looks kind of weird when you take it out of the tube, but it feels kind of nice on the lips.  It’s almost like a flexible rubber or plastic and it distributes a lot of color compared to a regular doefoot applicator.  The color of this lipstick is nice, and it left my lips feeling moisturized.  I would purchase this L’Oreal Colour Riche Extraordinaire Lipstick without a doubt.  The packaging of this gloss is VERY reminiscent of the packaging of YSL Glossy Stain.

I also received a coupon for Target for $3 off of a beauty purchase of $15 or more, and a coupon for 20% off and free shipping on dermstore.com.

Overall this was a decent beauty box subscription.  The best thing was that I have never tried any of these products before and I was able to find a couple that I like and that I will purchase in the future.

Did you get a Target Beauty Box?  Are there any box subscriptions out there that you recommend for me?

Ipsy-October 2014

IMG_4476IMG_4467

I just haven’t really been loving my Ipsy subscription lately.  Maybe I am just outside of their target audience?  The biggest reason why I keep this subscription is truly because of the cute bags we get every month.  With that said, here are the samples I got this month…

Ecru New York Acacia Protein BB Cream Beauty Balm for Hair

IMG_4464

I have honestly never heard of a BB cream for hair, but with so many new kinds of beauty products that are constantly coming out, can you blame me?  I think this product is like a leave-in conditioner or styling cream.  I have not tried this yet, but if I like it, I’ll update how I feel about it.

Epice Purifying Exfoliant

IMG_4469

Epice Purifying Exfoliant has a pleasant scent, and has enough fine exfoliant in it, that it doesn’t feel like it would be too harsh on the skin.  I will probably leave this facial exfoliant in my shower for days when I need a little extra deep clean on my face.

Figs & Rouge Mango Mandarin Hand Cream

IMG_4470

I like the packaging of this hand cream, but the scent is just okay.  I will most likely give his hand cream away to one of my younger nieces.

Star Looks Lip Gloss in Guilty Pleasure

IMG_4472

I have a few items from Star Looks from Ipsy already, throughout the year, and I am over it.  I wish Ipsy would introduce new brands more often.

Jesse’s Girl Mineralized Baked Powder Eye Shadow

IMG_4471IMG_4475

Jesse’s Girl Mineralized Baked Powder Eyeshadow is not heavily pigmented on me, but it is quite shimmery.  I’m not a silver makeup kind of girl, so I will probably also give this away.

Are you happy with your Ipsy sub?  What is the thing you like most about Ipsy?

Birchbox-October 2014

IMG_4383

Oh, Birchbox!  How I have a love/hate relationship with you!  This is why I keep this subscription, because just as you are getting bored with it, BAM! you end up getting something really great the next month.  Since they have been doing these pick your sample choices, I have gotten some really awesome samples two months in a row!  Last month it was the Liz Earle Hot Cleansing Cloth Kit, and this month is the full size Mally High Shine Liquid Lipstick.

I’m overall pleased with all of my Birchbox samples this month, as I don’t think there’s one item that will go unused.

IMG_4426 IMG_4430

Amika Perk Up Dry Shampoo

IMG_4432

I’m not a huge fan of dry shampoos overall, but I do like the option to sample various brands so I can eventually find one that works for me.  Amika Perk Up smells fantastic when sprayed on the hair, and the can is beyond cute!  This is a great sample to add to your purse or travel kit.  It also doesn’t seem to leave tons of powdery white residue that some brands of dry shampoo leave behind.  I haven’t had an opportunity to see if it works to absorb oil, but the scent alone makes it a great hair refresher.

Dr. Brandt Pores No More Vacuum Cleaner Blackhead Extraction Mask

IMG_4434

This is a spot mask that you put over troubled areas.  I really love all of the Dr. Brandt products that I have sampled, and have no doubt this mask will be great too.  I am always tempted to purchase the full size of Dr. Brandt’s products.

Lord & Berry Paillettes Glitter Eye Pencil in Black

IMG_4437IMG_4438

Another eye pencil.  It is black with silver glitter in it.  I swatched it on my hand and it smudged easily.  Not a fan.

Mally High Shine Liquid Lipstick-Melon

IMG_4436

Mally Beauty always has great, high quality products.  This is not a deluxe sample, this is a full size product worth $20!  I was blown away that this was included in my box.  I have tried her Liquid Lipsticks before and they are awesome.  Also, just look up Mally Rancal herself, she is all light and positivity.  I have a few of the product from the Mally line and they have all been really great.

Skin and Co Sicilian Light Serum

IMG_4433

I have not tried this sample yet, but on the bottle it says: “Sicilian Light Serum has a triple action formula that brightens, softens and tightens the skin while minimizing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.”  This serum is to be used under your foundation twice a day.

October’s Birchbox was really great, and I am pleased with my Mally sample choice this month.
