Anastasia Beverly Hills Tamanna Palette

IMG_4714

I had been going back and forth for a while… Do I get the Maya Mia Palette or the Tamanna Palette?  I already had the Anastasia Lavish Palette, and felt so-so about it, so I wasn’t really in a rush.  I went to Ulta last Friday, because I was in the state of mind that I deserved a treat.  (I feel this way every 6 hours or so.)

I was just leisurely walking around the aisles of the higher end cosmetics in the store when I spotted a few of the Tamanna @dressyourface Palettes at the Anastasia display.  It was almost calling out to me, and for $29, I said, why not?  I have been following Tamanna since her MySpace days, when she was a popular makeup artist out of Fremont, CA.  I have always admired her style, and I am also from the Bay Area, so I am happy to support her!

IMG_4775

I got it home, and played around with it a little, and it is steps beyond the Lavish Palette!  The shades are gorgeous, and the formula is soft and velvety.  None of the shades are chalky, and there’s not a lot of fallout when applying.  The Tamanna Palette comes with ten shadows, a double sided brush, and five “Get the Look” tutorial cards.  Purchasing this palette has absolutely convinced me to get the Maya Mia Palette because these Anastasia eyeshadows are so high quality, without the high cost.

This is a look I created today following one of the the step by step Get The Look tutorial cards.  I have a feeling the Tamanna Palette will be a palette that I reach for over and over.

Do you have any Anastasia palettes?  Do you like her collaborations?

E.L.F. HD Blush… Dare I Say TOO Pigmented?

IMG_4841

I have a love/hate relationship with E.L.F.  Some of their products are great, and some are really bad, so it’s hard to gauge what shades to purchase.  I have lucked out with their blushes, whether they be powder or cream.  E.L.F.’s blushes are always HIGHLY pigmented, and since they are so inexpensive, that even if you get the wrong shades, there’s usually no buyer’s remorse.

I have no idea what I was thinking when I purchased the HD Blush in Diva.  Maybe I thought the color payoff wouldn’t be so strong, so I went for the brightest shade possible?

IMG_4842

I just have to tell you now, you only need the tiniest of pumps to use for both of your cheeks. This was two full pumps, and entirely way too much.

I have heard people compare Diva to MAC’s Candy Yum Yum lipstick.  This blush formula is so liquidy/creamy and pigmented, that you could definitely use this as a lipgloss.

IMG_4844

This blush is strong, beautiful, and long lasting.  So much so, that you don’t need such a bright shade.  I could not wear Diva outside and take myself seriously.  This will however work great for stage makeup!

Today, I put the tiniest amount on the back of my hand, and swirled a Real Techniques stippling brush through it, and applied to my cheeks.  A small amount goes a long way, and if you blend well, it doesn’t leave your cheeks feeling sticky.

E.L.F. HD Blush does stain the skin so it would be great to wear out in the heat, and it woud definitely last you all day.

This is after wiping my hand down. It does stain, but that's great for long lasting wear.

This is after wiping my hand down. It does stain, but that’s great for long lasting wear.

I would highly recommend this blush for most skin types, and especially if you have a hard time getting your blush to stay.  I will use Diva for my lips, but pick up some lighter, more wearable colors.

Have you tried E.L.F. HD Blush?  Do you have any recommendations for a better shade?

Half Moon Bay Pumpkin Festival 2014: Garden Apothecary, FinchBerry Soap, Bean Hollow Beach

IMG_4507

The Half Moon Bay Pumpkin Festival is the first event of the Fall that I attend every year to kick off the Holiday Season.  I have attended this festival for as long as I can remember, and this year was the 45th year for the Pumpkin Festival.  It was a tradition that my parent’s started with me and my siblings, and now it is one I carry on with my husband.

I look forward to the food, I ALWAYS get clam chowder in a bread bowl with a dash of Tabasco, and pumkin ice cream!  So good.

IMG_4535

This year we ate first, so we could “walk it off” while browsing all of the vendors.  You can get blown glass sculptures, hats, holiday decor, children’s clothing and toys, art work, kitchenware, just about anything you can imagine.  All awesome and creative.  However the only thing that really caught our eye was a personalized Christmas sign.

IMG_4505

Adorable, right?

Since my mind is always on beauty, I was on the hunt for any locally made cosmetics.  I was lucky enough to come across a store called Garden Apothecary.  It is a beautiful store located on Main Street in Half Moon Bay.  It is really small, but has the intimate feeling of a rustic garden shed.  The store sells organic bath and body items, fine gardening tools, and gardening services.

On the left side of the store are all of the gardening supplies.  I did not spend any time looking at the gardening supplies, because I was so engrossed in the beauty products.

To the right are all of the organic bath and body products, and in the middle of the store I noticed teas.

After smelling all of the scents Garden Apothecary had available, because you know I had to smell EVERYTHING, I went with the Face + Body Mist, and the Flower Essence both in Rose Leaf scent.  This is the most beautiful rose scent I have smelled aside from actual roses.  It is all rose, and none of that powdery after smell you usally get with rose scented perfumes and lotions.  Both of these body products have minimal amount of ingredients which is refreshing.  The flower essence is a scented oil, which I use like a perfume, dotting on my pressure points, and the face and body mist is so light, I have been spraying it in my hair, for a longer lasting scent.

I also picked up a single-use mud mask that is French green clay, and I haven’t used it yet, but I have a feeling it is also a really high quality product.  The directions on the package say, “Fill the tub…pour a cocktail…enjoy mud mask.”  The packaging for the clay mask is also biodegradable.

If you are interested in any of the Garden Apothecary products, please visit their site here.

We also stopped at a store called Gifts A GoGo where I found a couple of FinchBerry Handmade Soaps that you can purchase online through FinchBerry.com.  They smells good and are fun to look at.

IMG_4849

I got soaps in Lavender Chamomile and Plumeria.  These soaps were not locally made, but still worth the buy.

After the festival, we headed out to the beach.  We always make a yearly homage to Bean Hollow Beach.

IMG_4530 IMG_4519

If you’ve ever been to Northern California, you know that our beaches are always cold.  However, the day of the festival was unusually warm for October, and this was probably the first time in my 29 years I was able to walk the beach without being bundled up.  It was really a gorgeous day.  There was also a man painting the beach on canvas while we were there.

IMG_4538 IMG_4534

Overall, the weather was beautiful, there were lots of laughs, memories, pictures, and even some beauty buys.  We are already looking forward to next year.

Are there any local festivals you look forward to every year?

Physicians Formula Powder Palette Mineral Glow Pearls: Why Would a Physician Make A Highlighter?

IMG_4670

Really, really?  PHYSICIANS FORMULA?  When Dr. Frank Crandall dreamed up this line, did he think it would evolve into powder palettes with high heels and hearts stamped into them?

I purchased this powder because I am starting to become interested in contouring and highlighting, and I have been looking for an inexpensive powder to practice with.  I usually pass by the Physicians Formula display in the store, because I always felt that for a drugstore brand, they are slightly on the expensive side.

I saw a photo of a woman on Instagram the other day who had a gorgeous highlight, and she said it was a Physicians Formula powder.  So off I went to Target to check it out!

After looking over the display, I settled on the Powder Palette Mineral Glow Pearls.  In the package it had a high sheen look and the color seemed like a good neutral shade to compliment my skin.

(The product is lighter, but thanks to my bad lighting it appears darker.)

IMG_4671 IMG_4672

The compact is a chrome silver with a pearl on the cover.  It’s very cute and mermaid-y.  The directions on the package state that you can wear this all over your face, to even out skin tone, but I would suggest only using this as a highlight and not as an allover powder.

IMG_4673

It is quite shimmery, and definitely not a product I would wear outside during the day because it is incredibly reflective.  However, it will give you a nice glow for a nighttime event.  On first sight, the product has a high sheen, but once you dip into the pan, it doesn’t look like it is quite as shiny.  I can’t wait to try this on a full face and wear it out.

Have you used any Physicians Formula products?  Do you love the brand?

Rimmel Stay Matte Liquid Mousse Foundation

IMG_4638

Yeah, yeah, I know I kind of dogged out Rimmel in one of my previous posts, but now I’ve changed my tune, and I am singing the praises of this Rimmel product.

I took a trip to Walgreens yesterday to browse their makeup section and not really to buy anything.  (Yeah right, but that sentence sounded good in my head.)  I decided that I was going to give Rimmel another shot, so I picked up the Stay Matte Liquid Mousse Foundation because it’s been getting a lot of attention lately.

I took my chances, and chose Shade 203 True Beige.

Yesterday evening, my husband called me on his way home from work, and told me we were going to go out to dinner, and I had absolutely no makeup on.  In a pinch, I quickly tried out my new Rimmel foundation with somewhat low expectations, but to my surprise this stuff is WONDERFUL!

It is the least expensive foundation I have purchased in a while, I believe I picked it up for $5.99.  It does have a really great mousse consistency, and while it looks really thick on my hand, it actually applies on the face quite nicely and also not as dry/matte looking as some other matte foundations.

IMG_4639 IMG_4640

By the time I got home after dinner in the hot Mexican restaurant, my face had much less shine than I expected and the makeup settled beautifully on my face.  I would definitely purchase this Rimmel Stay Matte Liquid Mousse Foundation again.  This foundation held up better than I could have expected, and this is a good alternative for someone who has oily/combo skin and is on a limited budget.

Let me apologize for my terrible lighting now. Sorry 😦

Have you tried this foundation?  Do you like it?

Target Beauty Box-October 2014

photo 1 photo 2

I am pretty sure I have a beauty box subcription addiction.  Every time I hear about a different beauty box, my ears perk up, and my wallet opens itself.  I just can’t help it!  I love getting stuff in the mail!

Target offers a beauty box every season, and I knew I had to order it after getting the Walmart Beauty Box.

This is what I got:

Elnett Extra Strong Hold Hairspray

photo 3

Lorel Elnett Hairspray seems to hold like any other aersol spray, and it has a baby powder scent.  It’s a nice addition to my hair care products.

Fekkai Professional Blowout Hair Refresher Dry Shampoo

photo 4

I love Fekkai products, but I just can’t get myself to love dry shampoo.  Why are all of the beauty boxes including dry shampoo every month?  If my hair gets oily, I just wash it.  Dry shampoo hasn’t done anything for me in terms of keeping my style lasting longer.  Over it.

Laneige BB Cushion Sample

photo 4

I have not tried this BB Cusion yet, but I am excited to try it.  It is usually so hard to find a good BB cream for tan skin, and this sample came in three colors, so I am hoping the medium shade matches me.

NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil

photo 3 photo-5

NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil glides on super smooth is and highly pigmented.  I am curious to see what other shades are available, because this feels like it would feel so nice to line my waterline.

L’Oreal Colour Riche Extraordinaire Lipstick

photo 5 photo 1 photo 2

Okay, so this name of this lipstick is just way too long for what it is.  I would consider this lipstick more of a lipgloss.  The applicator looks kind of weird when you take it out of the tube, but it feels kind of nice on the lips.  It’s almost like a flexible rubber or plastic and it distributes a lot of color compared to a regular doefoot applicator.  The color of this lipstick is nice, and it left my lips feeling moisturized.  I would purchase this L’Oreal Colour Riche Extraordinaire Lipstick without a doubt.  The packaging of this gloss is VERY reminiscent of the packaging of YSL Glossy Stain.

I also received a coupon for Target for $3 off of a beauty purchase of $15 or more, and a coupon for 20% off and free shipping on dermstore.com.

Overall this was a decent beauty box subscription.  The best thing was that I have never tried any of these products before and I was able to find a couple that I like and that I will purchase in the future.

Did you get a Target Beauty Box?  Are there any box subscriptions out there that you recommend for me?

Ipsy-October 2014

IMG_4476IMG_4467

I just haven’t really been loving my Ipsy subscription lately.  Maybe I am just outside of their target audience?  The biggest reason why I keep this subscription is truly because of the cute bags we get every month.  With that said, here are the samples I got this month…

Ecru New York Acacia Protein BB Cream Beauty Balm for Hair

IMG_4464

I have honestly never heard of a BB cream for hair, but with so many new kinds of beauty products that are constantly coming out, can you blame me?  I think this product is like a leave-in conditioner or styling cream.  I have not tried this yet, but if I like it, I’ll update how I feel about it.

Epice Purifying Exfoliant

IMG_4469

Epice Purifying Exfoliant has a pleasant scent, and has enough fine exfoliant in it, that it doesn’t feel like it would be too harsh on the skin.  I will probably leave this facial exfoliant in my shower for days when I need a little extra deep clean on my face.

Figs & Rouge Mango Mandarin Hand Cream

IMG_4470

I like the packaging of this hand cream, but the scent is just okay.  I will most likely give his hand cream away to one of my younger nieces.

Star Looks Lip Gloss in Guilty Pleasure

IMG_4472

I have a few items from Star Looks from Ipsy already, throughout the year, and I am over it.  I wish Ipsy would introduce new brands more often.

Jesse’s Girl Mineralized Baked Powder Eye Shadow

IMG_4471IMG_4475

Jesse’s Girl Mineralized Baked Powder Eyeshadow is not heavily pigmented on me, but it is quite shimmery.  I’m not a silver makeup kind of girl, so I will probably also give this away.

Are you happy with your Ipsy sub?  What is the thing you like most about Ipsy?
