Moschino Think Pink Collection Mirror iPhone Case

Oh Moschino, you’ve done it again!

In the last year or so, I’ve been noticing all of Moschino’s whimsical iPhone cases. They have bunnies, geese, bears, ice cream bars, and even McDonald’s inspired french fries!

Moschino debuted their Think Pink: Shop the Dream Barbie inspired line by Jeremy Scott, in Milan. This phone case was what caught my eye the most, (mostly because I knew it’s probably the only item from this line I could realistically afford) and I’m sure it will be the most copied iPhone case of the year.  (You know, just like the Chanel inspired perfume bottle cases that were popping up everywhere months ago.)

This adorable phone case will be perfect for your bathroom mirror selfies!  It retails for $85 and you can find it on

MAC Brooke Shields Collection-Misses the Mark When None of the Shadows Are Named Blue Lagoon

Cara Delevingne is that you? Oh wait, it's just Brooke Shields from the 80's...

Cara Delevingne is that you and your brows? Oh wait, it’s just Brooke Shields from the 80’s…

If you have been following me, you know I love a super long post title.  #sorrynotsorry

This morning while checking my emails, I saw that I got a message from MAC, about this new Brooke Shields Collection, that I had no idea was coming out.  I’m a little confused by the collaboration, because although Ms. Shields is known for her brows, I don’t think of her as a celebrity who has as big connection to makeup.

I browsed the collection, and it’s nice.  The colors are pretty, and the packaging is okay, but nothing I haven’t seen before.

Brooke Shields Veluxe Pearlfusion Shadow

Left: Trusted Instinct

Right: Mortal

These shadow sets have 5 complimentary shadow colors that range from matte to super shimmery.  The shadow sets retail for $44 each.

Gravitas Eye Shadow X 15

The shade names in this set are: Pretty, Soft Brown, Expensive Pink, Clove, Satin Taupe, Canter, Luscious, Antiqued, Psyche, Carbon, Shroom, Persuade, Plummed, Lofty and Pepper.  This shadow palette retails for $85, which is a great value for 15 MAC shadows, but with so many quality and less expensive palette choices out there, this is a big out of my range.

Brow Set

This clear brow gel retails for $17.  I’m actually really pleased that they included this in the collection because Brooke was all about the brows back in the day!

Veluxe Brow Liner

Veluxe Brow Liner has a powdery matte formula.  The shade available as part of this collection is Brunette, which is described as a “Muted mid-tone grey.”  Veluxe Brow Liner retails for $20.

Opulash Optimum Black

This is a new formula from MAC that is supposed to be more a more intense black, and give your lashes more volume, curl and length.  This formula is supposed to last a full 15 hours.  Retail cost is $17.

Brooke Shields Lipstick

Left: Excite

Right: Gospel

These two lipsticks are really gorgeous shades.  They both retail for $22, and look like they can look great on many skin tones.  Of the collection, I am interested in these lipsticks the most, but maybe that is because I am a lipstick junkie.

Brooke Shields Tinted Lipglass

Left: Artful

Right: Knockout

Retail: $22

Brooke Shields Creme Color Base

These cream colors are BEAUTIFUL!  They coordinate so well with the lipsticks and shadows in this collection.  These creme colors can be applied on bare skin or over makeup.  The color is buildable.  I have a hard time with cream based products on my face because I am oily, but I may give these a try because the color is great.  This set retails for $31.

Brooke Shields Bronzing Powder

This bronzing powder retails for $27.50 and is in shade Scone.

Brooke Shields Studio Nail Lacquer

Left: Dignity

Right: Pricey

These nail lacquers are also a hit for me.  Especially the Pricey shade.  Retail cost: $17.

You can get the whole collection here: Brooke Shields Collection

Did you know this collection was coming out?  If so, were you excited for it?  Now that you know it’s here, are you going to pick up any of the Brook Shields Collection?

Clinique Black Honey Beauty-So Dark, So Moody, So Fall Appropriate

Image via

I have been talking so much about Holiday releases lately, I almost skipped Fall.  It’s so easy to get sucked into the Holiday release excitement.

I’m not one to reach for a dark looks first, because sometimes I feel that it makes me looks a bit harsh, but I have been trying to step out of my box, and am grabbing mocha, purple, and more dark cherry shades lately.

I am constantly looking for value sets on, and today I came across the Black Honey Beauty set by Clinique.  The set comes includes: Almost Lipstick in Black Honey, A Different Nail Enamel in Black Honey, Quickliner for Eyes Intense in Black Honey, and Superbalm Moisturizing Gloss in Black Honey.

The Black Honey Beauty set is a perfect buy for someone who doesn’t want to FULLY commit to bold dark Fall colors.  Just looking at the tube, the lipstick is misleading because the color looks so dark, but once on, it looks more like a tinted balm.

All of the items in this set are full sized, so at $25 it is a steal!

Normal retail price of each item:

Lipstick: $16

Gloss: $16

Nail Enamel: $12.50

Eyeliner: $16.50

That would make it $61 for the set if you were to buy each piece individually!

If you are looking for a put-together look for Fall, I would highly recommend this set.

Let’s Talk About Hair!-History, Science, and I’m Getting a Haircut Today

I was two years old in this pic. Tell me my hair hasn’t always been there for me. 🙂

My hair has always been a huge part of my identity.  In primary school, I was always “Andrea With the Long Hair.”

The first thing I did when I turned 18, and could make my own decisions about my hair?  I chopped it.  Now every 5 or so years I get this major impulse to chop and start anew.  I go from waist-length hair to shoulder length hair, and usually with no regrets.

I hate when people say, “You’ll regret it!”  but I also hate when people say, “It’s just hair!”  It’s not just hair.  I have a family member very close to me who has Alopecia, and makes the decision to wear wigs.  Whenever I am ready to do my chop, I know it is hard for her to see me cut my hair with such reckless abandon.

Fall 2013

Fall 2013

When did people start identifying themselves by their hair?  Women are pressured to keep our hair long, make sure our roots are died, and don’t forget we need to style it to perfection daily.  Even Ancient Egyptian women were using hair dye, wigs, and hair extensions to keep up appearances.

I met a woman at a party recently with a haircut similar to this but even shorter, and she was the most confident and self assured woman in the room.

I met a woman at a party recently with a haircut similar to this, but even shorter, and she was the most confident and self assured woman in the room.

We humans lost our fur 2.5-3 million years ago, so you would think by now, we could do whatever we wanted with the hair we have left, without any societal pressures.

The scientific reason long hair is attractive to both males and females, is that it is a sign of health, longevity, and reproductive health.  Those who have short, thin, or balding hair, are seen to be less virile and healthy.

Looks healthy to me!

Looks healthy to me!

For men, short hair is seen as a conformity to society, while long hair is seen as a sign of antiestablishmentarianism.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, short hair on women is usually seen as someone who goes against the grain, and long hair is a sign that she has conformed to society ideals.

On a side note: Contrary to popular belief, America's Founding Father did not wear a wig.

On a side note: Contrary to popular belief, America’s Founding Father did not wear a wig.

As progressive as we in the developed world think we are, we still fall under these ideals and pressures when it comes to hair and appearance.

Cut your hair!  Don’t cut your hair!  The decision shouldn’t matter to anyone else but you.  Your style, makeup, and hair decisions should be based on what makes YOU feel your best and most confident.

This topic is on my mind today, because I do have a hair appointment after work, and I am in a time in my life where I need something new and fresh, and hair is always a good place to start.  I have been thinking of doing the chop, but also thinking of the pressure from family, friends, and society to keep my hair long and growing.

What will I do?  I guess I’ll just have to wait and see.

What are your thoughts on hair?

Washing Away My Monday Blues-Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish

photo 3

The best part of subscribing to monthly beauty boxes is the awesome products you get to try that you would never have known about or had access to.  Out of all of the samples you might forget about or give away, there are always a few that stand out, and this time it is the Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser Kit.

photo 2

I have been having some major issues with my skin the last month or two, and I have been in desperate need of a solution, so I was excited to be able to get this sample in September’s Birchbox.

Yesterday evening, after an afternoon of running errands and dining out, I figured it was as good a time as any to try out this cleanser.  I did not wear makeup yesterday, but my skin was oily from being out in the heat.

photo 1

The instructions were to rub the cleanser onto a dry face, and wet the muslin cloth under hot water.

After massaging the cream cleanser onto my face with my hands, I wiped off with the wet cloth.  The muslin cloth does feel a little rough on the skin, but it wasn’t as abrasive as using Apricot Scrub.

I rinsed my face with cold water per the instructions.  My face felt REALLY clean, cleaner than it has felt in a while.

In case you’re interested, here is the list of ingredients:

Aqua (water), Caprylic/capric triglyceride, Theobroma cacao (cocoa) seed butter, Cetearyl alcohol, Cetyl esters, Sorbitan stearate, Polysorbate 60, Glycerin, Cera alba (beeswax), Propylene glycol, Humulus lupulus (hops) extract, Panthenol, Rosmarinus officinalis (rosemary) extract, Anthemis nobilis (chamomile) extract, Eucalyptus globulus (eucalyptus) oil, Limonene, Citric acid, Sodium hydroxide, Phenoxyethanol, Benzoic acid, Ethylhexylglycerin, Dehydroacetic acid, Polyaminopropyl biguanide

I woke up this morning, and the acne on my cheeks had already reduced. My blemishes were slightly red, but they definitely looked like they were healing.   Needless to say, it was a great start to my Monday morning.

This is definitely one of those instances where I am absolutely going to purchase the full size once my sample is done.  I am sold after one try, but I will update if I have any adverse affects after prolonged use.

Have you tried this cleanser kit?  Did it work for you?

Have Sweet Dreams With Tarte!-Holiday 2014 Collection

I’ve been scoping out all of these 2014 collections from coveted brands, because I really want to know which collections I should be saving money for.  Last year for Black Friday online, I scored some great products, and I hope to do the same this year.

Today I learned that Tarte recently released their Sweet Dreams Holiday Collection 2014.  Tarte has some really great and high quality products.

Kiss & Belle Deluxe LipSurgence Lip Set

Exclusive LipSurgence™ set includes:
• 4 Deluxe LipSurgence™ Lip Tints: Dreamy (cool raspberry), Alluring (mauve), Innocent (warm nude), Dainty (pink)
• 2 Deluxe LipSurgence™ Matte Lip Tints: Eternal (pinky nude), Fancy (plum berry)
• 2 Deluxe LipSurgence™ Lip Glosses: Kiss (light pink), Belle (raspberry)

This set retails for $34 and looks like a great value considering the amount of product you get.  It’s also a great set to start with if you want to try Tarte.  I have tried the LipSurgence lip tint before and it tints the lips nicely, althought it has a tendency to dry out my lips a little throughout the day.

Chic to Cheek Deluxe Amazonian Clay Blush Set

This blush set includes 4 deluxe, limited-edition blushes:
• Amour (candy pink)
• Classic (soft apricot pink)
• Prim (plum nude)
• Daydream (rosy pink)

This blush set retails for $35.  I absolutely LOVE Tarte blushes.  I have combo/oily skin, and these blushes have amazing staying power and color pay off.

Tres Chic Park Ave Princess Contour Palette

The exclusive palette features:

  • Amazonian Clay Matte Waterproof Bronzer in Park Ave Princess™
  • Amazonian Clay 12-hour Blush in Posh (pale pink)
  • Amazonian Clay Highlighter in Champagne Gold

Park Ave Princess Contour set retails for $34, and while I haven’t tried any of their bronzer or highlighters, I imagine they are spectacular.

Sweet Dreams Best-Sellers Collection

This limited-edition set features:
• Deluxe Maracuja C-Brighter™ Eye Treatment
• Deluxe Maracuja Oil
• Deluxe Cheek Stain in Dreamer (pinky nude)

I don’t even have to think twice about this set.  Last year I also got a deluxe size Maracuja Oil in a Tarte Holiday set, and I was so surprised on how well it worked.  Maracuja Oil cleared up my blemishes, and actually reduced the amount of oil my face produced.  I used this quite a bit leading into my wedding in March to help keep my skin clear, and it worked flawlessly.  Since Maracuja Oil worked so well, I have also been wanting to try the Eye Treatment, but never got around to purchasing it, so this set would be a great opportunity to get those two awesome but expensive items.  Even thought they are deluxe sized, you don’t need a whole lot of product per use, so it should last a while.  The Sweet Dreams set retails for $19.

Ladies Who Lash

The limited-edition set features:
• Limited-Edition Pearl Picture Perfect™ Eyelash Curler
• Deluxe Lights, Camera, Lashes™ 4-in-1 Mascara

I have not tried Tarte’s eyelash curlers, only because I am so used to finger holes on my curlers, but this one is really cute.  This eyelash set goes for $19.

Brushed With Destiny Set of 5 Bamboo Brushes and Makeup Bag

The limited-edition set features:
• Contourtionist™ Bamboo Cream Blush & Contour Brush
• The Balancing Act™ Bamboo Foundation Brush
• The Buffer™ Airbrush Finish Bamboo Foundation Brush
• Double-Ended Bamboo Eyeshadow Brush
• Undercover Lover™ Bamboo Concealer Brush
• Limited-Edition Collector’s Brush & Makeup Bag

These are full sized brushes!!!  Ahhhh!  Squeak!  Squeal!  I’m on this set as soon as my next mid-month paycheck comes!  This set is $44 what a steal!

All Eye Need 5-Piece Skinny SmolderEYES Eyeliner Set

Includes tarte’s full size skinny smolderEYES™ Amazonian clay waterproof liner in 5 best-selling shades:

  • onyx (black)
  • bronze agate (bronze)
  • smoky quartz (grey taupe)
  • peridot green (olive green)
  • plum tanzanite (dark plum)

You can pick up this eyeliner set for $27.  I think this set is the only one I might pass one, but I don’t use pencil liner.  But for those who are into pencil liner, this set is a great value.

I am going to go BROKE with all of these limited editions coming out.  Sigh!

Does Your Hair Hold Static in The Colder Months?

My hair is thick, curly and frizzy naturally, and I keep it flat ironed almost exclusively.  While my slick straight hair works mostly year round where I live, the slightly colder months leave me looking like I rubbed a balloon through my hair.

There is a whole scientific explanation as to why your hair gets static in cold weather, but the simple explanation is that the lack of moisture in your hair contributes to static.  If you want to know more, GOOGLE IT!

Over time, I have used different beauty hacks to try to tame the static, and they usually do not work.

This little girl is totally going to get hair static. At least she will smell good.

This little girl is totally going to get hair static. At least she will smell good.

I’ve tried the dyer sheet trick.  While it left my hair smelling lovely, it did nothing to tame my strands.  I’ve recently read that instead of rubbing the dryer sheet directly on your hair, you can rub it on your pillowcase before sleeping, or rub against the bristles of your brush…  I’m skeptical.

I’ve tried spraying the ends of my hair with Moroccan Oil before leaving home, and while it does wonderful things to my hair while blow drying, it still doesn’t stop the static!

What has worked for me in the past is using a shampoo and conditioner that are a little heavier like Davines Oi Collection.  Oi contains roucou oil (also known as annatto or achiote) which helps repair damaged hair, and also protect against UV rays.  This shampoo and conditioner weren’t great for me during the summer months, because my hair doesn’t need any extra oil during that time, but during the cooler months, this will work really well in making sure my straight styled strands stay in place. You can snag it here davines, com or a Davines friendly salon.

Avoid synthetic fabrics.

Avoid plastic combs and brushes.  Use natural bristle brushes, and wooden combs in the winter months.

Oh yeah, and if Family Guy ever taught us anything, DON’T SHUFFLE YOUR FEET ON THE CARPET! 🙂
